Keripik Tempe Rohani, a brand of Malang souvenirs, has caught the attention of visitors as one of the top choices. Located in Malang’s Typical Tempe Chips Industry Center, in Purwantoro village, Blimbing sub-district, this home-based business has become a favorite that is always crowded with visitors.
Maria Ulfa, who now manages Keripik Tempe Rohani, recounts that the business began as a home industry founded by her parents in 1988. The name “Rohani” was chosen in honor of her father.
Initially, Keripik Tempe Rohani operated from home, from production to marketing. However, over time, in 2011, they expanded their business by opening an outlet on the side of the highway. This made Keripik Tempe Rohani even more well-known in the region.
Although it has managed to attract visitors, the tempeh chips industry still faces challenges, especially with competitors from similar industries in the Sanan area. Maria continues to create the right business strategy to maintain the excellence of Keripik Tempe Rohani.
Their strategies include service improvement, product quality maintenance, and innovation. Apart from producing tempeh chips, they also present innovative products such as tempeh brownies, tempeh spiku, and tempeh cookies. In addition, they also utilize online marketing to keep up with the times.
In 2011, to expand their business, Maria revealed that they needed a considerable amount of capital. For this reason, they utilized a KUR loan from BRI. The loan helped Keripik Tempe Rohani’s business development process.
In addition, Keripik Tempe Rohani is also an SME fostered by Rumah BUMN. Maria appreciates the various positive activities from Rumah BUMN that have helped her business progress, such as the opportunity to participate in exhibitions and business class events.
During peak seasons such as Ramadan and Lebaran homecoming, demand for Rohani Tempe Chips products increases significantly. Daily sales that usually only reach 1 digit can increase to 2 digits, even reaching an increase of up to 50-60%, even before the pandemic occurred, this increase could reach 100% per day.
