Islamabad – South Asia is currently enduring an unprecedented heatwave, with temperatures in parts of Pakistan soaring to 49°C by the end of April 2025. The extreme heat nears global records for April and has raised serious concerns over its impact on public health and regional infrastructure.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave advisory in effect through April 30, urging residents to take precautionary measures. The scorching conditions are driven by a high-pressure system stretching from the Middle East to South Asia, intensifying regional weather patterns.
The crisis is not limited to Pakistan; neighboring countries such as India, Iran, and Bangladesh are also witnessing abnormally high temperatures. In several areas, temperatures have exceeded 45°C, disrupting daily life and economic activities.
Climate experts have pointed to this heatwave as a clear signal of global climate change. They emphasize the urgent need to cut greenhouse gas emissions and improve preparedness for increasingly extreme weather conditions.
