Doha, Qatar: The Indonesia U-23 National Team successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup after defeating Jordan with a score of 4-1 in the last match of Group A on Sunday (April 21, 2023). This achievement was welcomed by coach Shin Tae-yong and PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir.
Shin Tae-yong expressed his great gratitude to the players for their struggle and hard work on the field. He also expressed his pride at the team’s achievement of qualifying for the quarterfinals for the first time in the history of participation in the U-23 Asian Cup.
“First of all, I am very happy that we qualified for the quarterfinals. I express my great gratitude to the players,” Shin Tae-yong said.
“This victory is dedicated to all fans of the Indonesian U-23 national team in the country,” he added.
Erick Thohir was no less proud of the U-23 national team’s struggle. He praised the hard work and mentality of the players, who did not give up even though they were under pressure.
“I think the players’ game and mental charts have continued to rise since losing to Qatar, even though we played amazingly at that time with nine players. They didn’t give up when they were under pressure,” Erick said.
“I salute the strategy of coach Shin Tae Yong who was able to concoct so that the team played really well. This is good and the main capital because the struggle is still long. Pray and continue to support the national team,” he added.
The U-23 national team will face the winners of Group B, namely Japan or South Korea in the quarter-finals. This match will be held on Thursday (25/4/2024).
